Residential Summer Session
UBMS has a five-week residential Summer Session (six weeks for rising seniors) that includes:
- Exciting research classes with college professors in a math or science related subject such as biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science or physics
- ACT preparation (all content areas)
- Tutoring in core subject areas
- Choice of one elective class from art, history or a foreign language (These are different from traditional high school classes and include more student discussion and participation.)
- Field trips to area businesses that employ professionals in math/science related careers
- Cultural enrichment - students visit museums, theaters, ethnic restaurants and other attractions in places such as Little Rock, Memphis, and Heber Springs
- A three-day field trip to a regional city for cultural and recreational activities
- Room and board while residing on the Lyon College campus
- $15 per week stipend for students in good standing
An additional week of special activities is provided to students the summer before they begin their senior year, including special speakers; a campus visit to a four-year college; individual academic and career advising; workshops on college and financial, and on topics such as study skills, personal time management, goal setting and leadership; and cultural and recreational field trips.
What is provided?
- Room and Board on the Lyon College campus
- All instruction and classroom supplies
- Flash drive, calculator, t-shirt and backpack
- Entrance fees, food and hotel on field trips
- A weekly stipend of $15 for students in good standing
What is not provided?
- Personal items (toiletry articles, pillow, blankets)
- Laundry services and products (an on-campus laundry is available).
