The Upward Bound Math-Science Residential Summer Session is a six week experience.
The Residential Summer Session begins with a one week virtual Senior Week for rising seniors. Senior Week sessions include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Senior Year Action Plan
● How to Choose the Right College / Adjusting Freshman Year
● How to Get Involved on a College Campus / Greek Life
● Financial Aid / FAFSA
● Out of State Virtual College Tours
● The Importance of Job Shadowing & Internships
● Study Abroad
● Managing a Job While in College / Balancing Classes with Athletics
● College Student Panel / College Faculty & Staff Panel
● Stress Management / Goal Setting
Next, students live on Lyon College campus for four weeks while attending classes, engaging in cultural enrichment trips, and participating in a wide variety of activities that prepare them to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.
Class information is listed below, though new classes are offered each summer:
● Hands-On Research Courses Taught by Lyon College Faculty (e. g., Model Rocketry, Cryptography, Organic Chemistry, Psychology of Rock 'n' Roll, DNA & Genetics)
● ACT Prep
● English & Mathematics Courses
● Foreign Language (e.g., Latin, Japanese)
● Elective Courses (e. g., 3D Printing, Video Game Programming, Outdoor Experience, Photography)

Finally, select students remain for a sixth week to travel on a five day trip where they tour additional colleges, meet more STEM experts, and experience various enrichment activities. Previously, students have traveled to Boston, MA and New Orleans, LA!
What is provided for the students?
● Room and Board on the Lyon College Campus
● Classroom Supplies (backpack, Chromebook, calculator, etc.)
● Field Trip Fees (meals, transportation, lodging, entrance fees, etc.)
● $15 Weekly Stipend
What is not provided for the students?
- Personal Items (toiletries, bedding, towels)
