Lyon College offers a variety of residence hall and apartment options. Apartment housing is available only to upper-class students. All residence halls and apartments are smoke-free.
On-Campus Living at Lyon College
Lyon's house system on campus follows the British collegiate house system in which students divide into subunits, or "houses," at the moment of enrollment. Within each house is a suite for a live-in faculty member who designs programs to integrate the academic and co-curricular aspects of campus life.
Single, full-time students under 21 years of age and living 30 or more miles from the Lyon campus are required to reside on campus. Single, full-time students under 21 years of age may commute daily from the home of their parents or legal guardians if within 30 miles of the campus. Students who are veterans, reside with their spouse, or are 21 years of age or older may reside off campus provided that they have informed the director of campus life in writing prior to the asssignment of on-campus housing. The dean of students must approve any exception to these policies.
Community-style bathrooms are single-gender bathrooms shared with all residents on the floor. Maintenance maintains these bathrooms. Suite-style bathrooms are bathrooms between two rooms that residents of those rooms maintain. Residents must supply their own cleaning supplies. Assigned bathrooms are single bathrooms that might be across the hallway or around a corner and are assigned to up to four residents. Maintenance maintains these bathrooms. The College supplies toilet paper to all student bathrooms. Premium housing is an additional cost.
