Throughout the academic year, the Career Center hosts a variety of events and programs to help students develop valuable skills that prepare them for post-graduate success and to expose students to a variety of opportunities to pursue during and after college. Each year the Career Center hosts three major events that help students develeop their professional acumen:
The Summer Experience Fair provides an interactive environment in which students share their summer internships, jobs, academic travel, volunteer experiences, research opportunities and more with the campus community. Student presenters share what they took away from their summer experience, how they found out about it, whether the experience has influenced their future plans, and how the experience was funded. The fair also gives student presenters practice articulating their experiences, a key skill for future interviews and graduate school admissions essays.
A play on the words “expo” and “explore,” the Lyon Career EXPLO provides students with opportunities to explore potential career paths and graduate programs through networking with Lyon alumni, grad school representatives, and employers. Students are exposed to entry-level jobs, internships, and other experiences, and are encouraged to visit with and learn from successful alums representing a variety of fields who, once upon a time, stood in their shoes on this very campus.
Students participating in immersion trips connect with potential employers and relevant organizations in real-world work settings, developing valuable insights into a field of interest. In this small group setting, students network with professionals behind the scenes, seeing firsthand where their degrees can lead, as well as what it takes to compete for opportunities.
The Career Center also designs a large number of smaller programs to guide students in understanding and articulating the value of their liberal arts education. Follow the Career Center on Facebook and Instagram to view these scheduled events and more.
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
