Interim President Melissa Taverner sent the following message to the Lyon community on Sept. 13:
Dear Lyon community,
As many of you know, we lost a student this weekend. With a heavy heart, I am now able to share that senior Sonny Pham passed away this past Saturday.
Sonny was a computer science major minoring in mathematics. He was a bright student, and he made the Dean’s List for four consecutive semesters. He enjoyed gaming and took part in activities with the Lyon College Esports team.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at the Roller-Crouch Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery in Bethesda. As I mentioned in my previous message, we will come together as a community to mourn Sonny and honor his memory. The campus memorial service will be next week. More information on these plans will be shared soon. Please remember that if you are having a hard time, you are not alone, and the College is here to support you.
I encourage you to seek support and comfort from the Chaplain’s Office and the Counseling Center. Both will be available for students, staff, and faculty.
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
