The Lyon College chapter of Mortar Board has been honored with the Gold Torch Award from National Mortar Board. The chapter is one of 19 Mortar Board chapters to win the esteemed award, and there are over 200 Mortar Board chapters nationwide.
According to National Mortar Board’s website, recipients of the Gold Torch Award “exemplify scholarship, leadership, and service,” and the chapters are “active on their campus in ways that improve the quality of student life.” The Lyon chapter received this award for its leadership in organizing the Student Creative Arts and Research Forum (SCARF) and its Feminine Hygiene Product Distribution Project last year.
Mortar Board Advisor and Assistant Professor of Chemistry Dr. Irosha Nawarathne shared, “I am incredibly happy to see Lyon College in the award list along with some of the best schools in the country.”
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
