Lyon senior class reflects on growth at honors convocation

Lyon College’s class of 2019 celebrated its last honors convocation today, and senior class president Samantha Sharp reflected on the changes she and her classmates have experienced over the past four years.

“Lyon has grown the most in what if offers to students,” she said.

Joking, she said the dining hall’s food options had significantly improved. But more importantly, Lyon, like the Batesville community, has grown to offer more diverse experiences.

“I know that I have become a vastly different person because of my education at this college,” she said. “If there is one thing that my professors have taught me, it is that learning is not a passive activity.”

The honors convocation featured its traditions of recognizing honor societies and announcing student awards. Also following tradition, senior Jordan Trant announced Alpha Chi’s Professor of the Year Award, Associate Professor of Art Dustyn Bork.

“This professor truly is deserving,” said Trant. “Students have said this professor is one of the most impactful people they have met at Lyon...You may not have seen this person around campus much this semester because he’s been redecorating Batesville with his murals class.”
