According to its website, Enactus defines itself as “a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.” Lyon College has formed a chapter of this community with about 20 student members and advisors Alvin Holliman, Assistant Professor of Management, and Annette Castleberry, Co-Director of Career Services. Students in Enactus get involved in social entrepreneurship projects that benefit the local community, as well as larger projects and endeavors that make a global impact. Over 2,000 colleges and universities are members of Enactus.
The six officers of Lyon’s chapter include Connor Pond, president; Jamie Jones, vice-president; Jeremy Porter, treasurer; Cheyanne Kellum, assistant treasurer; Leilani Ocasio, secretary; and Sky Graham, assistant secretary. “All Lyon students are encouraged to join, and being a business major is not a requirement or necessity—the Lyon chapter could use more students with IT skills, public speaking ability, and basic energy and a desire to help the Batesville community,” said Holliman. Membership is free.
Enactus holds regional conferences and career fairs each year, as well as an annual national conference. The Enactus chapters compete at the conferences and showcase the impact of their community outreach projects, and the finalists get to advance to the national conference. Lyon’s chapter plans to attend the regional conference in Rogers, Arkansas on April 18.
