The Lyon College Harlequin Theatre will present Anton Chekhov’s "The Bear," a one-act vaudeville directed and produced entirely by Lyon students.
Directed by senior Jessica Craven, "The Bear" traces the budding relationship between widow Elena Ivanovna Popova (Karissa Harper, ’20) and oddball landowner Gregory Stepanovitch Smirnov (Basil Gist, ’20).
The story begins when Smirnov attempts to collect the debt of Popova’s late husband, Nicolai, only to have Popova meet him with stern opposition. What begins as disdain, however, quickly melts into a ludicrous back-and-forth as both characters fall helplessly in love, despite warnings from Popova’s trusty footman, Luka (Navy Griffin, ’20).
The show opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Holloway Theatre for a two-night run. Admission is free, and no reservations are necessary.
