Lyon College’s Student Government Association (SGA) announced that Kristen Towery will serve as the new president for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. Towery hopes to give a voice to all students through the organization.
She said it feels surreal to be the next SGA president.
“The past two presidents have really inspired me with their leadership and work ethic,” she said. “I’m really excited to get a chance to make the same impact on the Lyon Community.”
Expanding the visibility of SGA is a big priority for her.
“SGA makes so many important decisions on campus pertaining to policy and funding, things that impact our amazing community!” Towery said. “I really want student voices to be heard through their representatives.”
Raul Gonzalez will be vice president, and Taylor Fitterling will be treasurer.
The position of secretary is vacant at this time due to a lack of applications. SGA will hold elections again in the fall to fill this position.
The new officer team will take office on July 1, 2020.
“Congratulations to the 2020-21 SGA executive team,” said outgoing SGA president Hayley Cormican. “We have the utmost confidence you will lead the Lyon community well and uphold the values set by them.”
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
