Cutline: Jennifer Morrison (center) will be the new director of health and wellness for Lyon College. She lives in Batesville with her daughters, (from left) Cady and Chloe, and her husband, Shannon.
Jennifer Morrison is excited to continue serving her hometown community as the new director of health and wellness for Lyon College.
Morrison graduated from Southside High School and moved to Jonesboro to attend Arkansas State University. She graduated in 2007 with both a registered nurse licensure (RN) and a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).
“I’ve worked at White River Medical Center ever since I graduated,” she said. “I worked in the emergency room for a little while and spent most of the last 10 years in the operating room.”
Her passion for nursing developed over time. She remembers saying she wanted to be a nurse since she was a kid.
“My baby dolls had stitches in them from where I took care of them,” Morrison said, laughing. “My little girl still plays with them.”
She continued, “I don’t know what sparked this passion in me when I was little, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Morrison loves working where she grew up and knowing the patients she serves.
“It’s nice being able to be close to home and see the impact of what we do.”
She looks forward to exploring “new territory” as the director of health and wellness at Lyon.
“It’s not a side of nursing I’m accustomed to yet. This is my first week and we’ve had two snow days, so I’m still getting used to it,” she said, laughing.
Morrison plans to work closely with COVID Coordinator Shawn Tackett and help keep campus as healthy as possible. She will review the current protocols and policies and make suggestions as needed.
While Morrison enjoyed working in the operating room, she said the job was very “fast-paced” and “never the same day-to-day.” With a more consistent schedule at Lyon, she plans to pursue her advanced practice nurse (APN) licensure.
“That’s been on my backburner. There was no way I could do it before because I didn’t have the time,” Morrison said.
She continued, “I’m excited to work at the college and further my education at the same time.”
Morrison and her husband, Shannon, have been married since 2009 and have two daughters, Cady and Chloe. The family has two dogs, Toby and Jax.
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
