How will entry testing work on move-in day?

Lyon College will continue testing for COVID-19 this semester, including entry testing on move-in day and surveillance testing throughout the semester. Please read the frequently asked questions below for more information.

Will students be tested for COVID-19 when they arrive on campus?

Yes, testing is the first thing students need to do when they return to campus. Students must take the test before starting the check-in process.

All students returning for the fall semester are required to participate in entry testing. The antigen test (rapid test) will be administered in Becknell Gymnasium.

Parents and family will need to wait outside the gym until their student has received their test results. There will be a hospitality tent with drinks and snacks available.

The entry testing schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, Aug. 7- 8 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 15- 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Do commuter students have to be tested?

Yes, commuter students will need to come to campus on one of the move-in dates to participate in entry testing. They can also schedule a time with Director of Health and Wellness Jennifer Morrison.

Will students have to quarantine while they wait on their test results?

No, students will not be required to quarantine while awaiting results.

Will faculty and staff go through entry testing?

No, faculty and staff are not required to complete entry testing. However, they can contact Covid Coordinator Shawn Tacket if they would like to take an entry test.

Will students be tested throughout the semester?

Yes, the College will conduct surveillance testing throughout the fall semester, using antigen tests (rapid tests). The purpose of surveillance testing is to gather a statistical sample of the College campus to determine the College’s infection rate.

Each week, the College will select a random sample to be tested.

Do I have to get the COVID-19 vaccine before returning to campus?

While the COVID-19 is not required, the College strongly encourages all students, staff and faculty to get vaccinated.

Lyon College is even partnering with Economart Pharmacy to host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. for students, faculty, staff, and the public.

The clinic will be held outside the Becknell Gymnasium under the Lyon College events tent. Chairs and water will be available while participants wait to receive their vaccine. Registration is not required, and the vaccine will be free of charge. Recipients will need to wait 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine.
