Gospel choir to perform in Brown Chapel

The Lyon College Gospel Choir, directed by Lyon alumna Markeita Williams, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 7, in Brown Chapel. The concert will include guest performances by the United Voices of Arkansas State University—Jonesboro, the Good News Singers of Harding University—Searcy and the Anointed Ones.

Established in the fall semester of 2015, the Lyon College Gospel Choir is a vocal ensemble open to students and community members regardless of their faith. Under the direction of Markeita Williams and the Anointed Ones, the choir is devoted to using its art not only to entertain, but also to worship.

The program will feature a variety of songs drawn from the African American religious tradition, including Kirk Franklin’s “Why We Sing,” Hezekiah Walker’s ”You’re All I Need” and J. J. Hairston’s “Lord of All.”

The choir plans to perform in Cuba as a part of a seven-day festival tour in Varadero and Havana in the summer of 2017. Fundraising for this trip will commence in April 2017.
