The Lyon College ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) Program had five cadets receive awards for their achievements this semester.
Mikayla "Blysse" Harmon won the National Defense Industrial Association Award. Alexander Holzawarth won the Edwin O. Carlson Award. William Sonnier won the Veterans of Foreign Wars Award. Zachary Curlee won the Society of the War of 1812 Award, and Mariah Spix won the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Award.
The ceremony was held at Arkansas State University on April 29. Since Lyon ROTC is a satellite program of Arkansas State University, the Lyon ROTC cadets competed for awards against cadets in the ASU, Harding University and the ASU at Beebe ROTC programs.
"This strong showing of achievement from Lyon Cadets would be noteworthy at any time," said Assistant Professor of Military Science Jerry Bowling, "but considering how new the program is at Lyon College, it speaks volumes about the excellence these Cadets strive to attain."
Bowling conluded, "I am very proud of the individual and group achievements of these students and the program as a whole."
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
