Lyon to present The Dining Room

BATESVILLE — Dr. Fonzie Geary, assistant professor of theatre, will direct A.R. Gurney’s The Dining Room, a comedy/drama that tells the story of the dying culture of upper-middle class Americans, known as White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, or WASPs.

The play presents the lives of dozens of characters throughout the 20th century in a series of vignettes that all take place in a dining room. The scenes progress showing the transition of the dining room from a central hub in the home where everything from family discussion to special events take place to a more contemporary time where the dining room is seen as obsolete.

A six-member cast switch from role to role throughout the production as they portray the multitude of characters in the play. Student cast members include Jessica Craven, Bobby Watkins, Andrew Schwarzkopf, Alex Patrono-Smith and Jaclyn Smith. Geary will perform as well as direct. Madison Oden serves as stage manager.

Show times will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13-15 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 in Holloway Theatre on the Lyon campus. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and non-Lyon students. All those with a Lyon ID are admitted for free.
