Lyon to host 125th meeting the Presbytery of Arkansas
Lyon College will host the 125th meeting of the Presbytery of Arkansas beginning with a worship service at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 21 in Brown Chapel.
The Presbytery of Arkansas rotates holding its February meetings at Lyon College and the University of the Ozarks, the two institutions of higher education affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in the state.
“It helps the church continue its relationship and connections with the colleges,” said Bill Branch, interim chaplain at Lyon College and former general presbyter of the Presbytery of Arkansas.
The outgoing moderator for the Presbytery of Arkansas, Shereé Niece, will preach during Friday’s worship service. The Reverend Ms. Clare Kelley will be installed as the new moderator. As such, Kelley will serve as the legislative head for the presbytery. The Lyon College Concert Chorale and the Lyon College Pipe Band will perform as part of Friday night’s service. Following the worship service, Lyon President Don Weatherman and his wife, Lynn Weatherman, will host a reception in the Bevens Music Room. All are invited to attend.
On Feb. 22, a morning worship service will be held in the Maxfield Room at Edwards Commons. Fox Blossom Venture will provide music for the service, and a candidate for ministry will preach her trial sermon. A business meeting will be conducted after the service. The public is invited to attend all events.
