Lyon College’s first active-duty ROTC cadet graduated Friday, Dec. 9

Lyon College’s ROTC Fighting Scots detachment held its second commissioning ceremony of the year on Friday, Dec. 9. December graduating senior and now Second Lieutenant Alexander Holzwarth was the sole graduate of the ceremony, becoming the first officer in his long line of enlisted and non-commissioned officer family.  Throughout high school Holzwarth intended to join some form of military service to find direction and discipline. Five Lyon cadets receive achievement awards for ROTC program

The Lyon College ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) Program had five cadets receive awards for their achievements this semester. Mikayla "Blysse" Harmon won the National Defense Industrial Association Award. Alexander Holzawarth won the Edwin O. Carlson Award. William Sonnier won the Veterans of Foreign Wars Award.
