Montgomery K. (Monty) Hill was appointed the Director of Bands at Lyon College in the Spring of 2015. Under his direction, Lyon College has established a Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band, and for the first time in its history, Lyon College has a comprehensive band program. Prior to his current position, Mr. Hill served as the Interim Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands at New Mexico State University. This appointment included serving as the director of the 'Pride of New Mexico' Marching Band and the NMSU Symphonic Winds.
Having taught in the public schools of Arkansas for 24 years, Mr. Hill has maintained a very active schedule as a conductor in the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and New Mexico. In 2005, the Lake Hamilton High School Band performed at the American School Band Directors' Association National Convention under his direction.
Mr. Hill holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Henderson State University where he studied conducting with Mr. Wendell Evanson and clarinet with Dr. Earl Hesse. He also holds a Masters in Music Performance with an emphasis in conducting from New Mexico State University where he studied conducting with Dr. William Clark.
As a woodwind artist, Mr. Hill has performed with Charo, Jim Nabors, Mary Wilson, Barbara Eden, Bobby Ridell, Phylis Dillard, Patti Paige, and Micahel Martin Murphy.
