Language and Literature

Lyon College’s language and literature division offers a variety of courses in the written arts, theory, and foreign languages.

As English majors, students learn to historicize literature and culture, conceptualize the form and function of literary and discursive texts, analyze style and content, and understand the traditions and tools of writing. From Huck Finn’s unsought triumph to Oedipus’ devastating hubris, students within the English major master the written word as both critical and insightful readers and adept and creative writers.

As foreign language majors, students immerse themselves in international cultures through music, film, history, and tradition while honing their oral, reading, and writing skills. Students may choose to study either Spanish or French.
