At the end of the 2011 fall semester, Lyon College faculty and staff initiated a winter clothing drive to provide cold weather clothing to students who needed coats, gloves, hats, and scarves. Many students found it tremendously helpful, and so the Free Store was created.
Since its inception, the Free Store has collected clothing and small miscellaneous items from faculty, staff, the Batesville community, and Lyon's move-out program, Ditch the Dumpster.
The Free Store is open to Lyon students, staff, and faculty to donate and/or shop. Through the Free Store, Lyon is working to divert reusable items from the landfill while providing a fun and free shopping experience for our campus.
The Free Store has incorporated career development's clothes closet, which provides appropriate clothing for interviews, and health and wellness' jeans closet, which provides pants for students slimming down from the campus weight-loss program, The Biggest Winner.
The Free Store is located in the Campus Ministry House at 22nd and Highland Street.
