When will in-person courses return?

The College intends to hold in-person courses for the spring 2020 semester.

What options are available to students who need to continue virtual learning for the spring semester?

Accommodations for students needing to continue virtual learning off campus will be made on a case-by-case basis. Students with pre-existing conditions or other health concerns will need to petition the Provost’s Office. Please contact provost@lyon.edu if you have questions.

What do I do if I need to stay on campus December 22-27?

Residence Life is working with students who need housing during this time. Please contact Residence Life for more information and fill out the housing request form on lyon.edu/coronavirus.

If I’m taking courses during the Jan. Term, do I need to be on campus?

No, the courses for the Jan Term are remote. However, if a student has a compelling need to be on campus for their Jan Term course, they can contact Residence Life and request approval to move onto campus on December 28. 

I have questions about my move-in date. Who do I contact?

Please contact Student Life at (870) 307-7314. If you are a coach or student-athlete, please contact Athletic Director Kevin Jenkins at kevin.jenkins@lyon.edu.

Can my parents and family members help me move into my residence hall?

No, visitors will not be allowed to enter residence halls. RLS and Student Life will be available to help students move-in on their designated move-in date.

How will students have access to meals while quarantining or isolating in their dorms?

Student Life will coordinate meal deliveries for students. Food allergies will be taken into consideration.

Do we have to wear masks this semester?

Yes. Students, faculty and staff will be required to wear masks at all times indoors and outdoors when unable to maintain social distancing, except when employees are alone in personal work spaces, students are in their residence hall rooms, and when eating. Additional protections are being considered, so that faculty will not have to wear masks while teaching.

Do commuter students have to participate in COVID-19 testing?

Yes, commuting students will also be required to participate in intake testing. After being tested, commuters will be asked to quarantine at as much as possible until they are notified of their results. More details on testing for commuters will be provided at a later date.

What is the protocol for a campus outbreak?

The COVID-19 taskforce is developing protocol in the event of a campus outbreak. More information will be shared on this before the spring semester.

Who do I contact if I have questions about course credits and transcripts?

Please contact the Registrar’s Office if you have any questions about course credits or transcripts.

Who do I contact with questions about training and troubleshooting remote courses?

Campus members can contact IT support (support@lyon.edu), Associate Director of Administrative Computing Jeremiah Cherwien, and Director of Institutional Research Andrew English for assistance.

Will academic services still be available?

Yes, the MAC intends to safely offer its services, including in-person sessions and remote support, for a range of courses and disciplines. 

If we return in Spring 2021 for face-to-face instruction, will fall and winter sports have a season?

The College is in constant contact with the NAIA and the American Midwest Conference. While we will not have athletic competition until after December 31, 2020, we are looking into fall and winter athletic opportunities in the spring. As soon as we have more information, we will share this with you.

I'm an athlete, and I have questions about championships, eligibility and/or competitions.

Will the College still host campus events?

Lyon College will postpone or alter all events that would otherwise have brought large groups of people on campus during the coming academic year, including events such as the Arkansas Scottish Festival, Homecoming, and Parents’ Weekend. Some large alumni events will be revised as virtual events or held off campus. More details to come from the Alumni Office.

Will student organizations still meet this semester?

Social Council, Honor Council, and the Student Government Association (SGA) will continue to meet. Clubs and other student organizations will depend on the students involved and their advisors to continue meeting.

Will Nichols Trips and study abroad be available this year?

No, Lyon cannot safely send students abroad at this time because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries are closed to international travel, especially travel from the United States because of the current outbreak of cases.
