On March 8, Lyon College will offer a free evening of international music featuring The Highlander Youth Singers and soloists from both the College and the community in a celebration of Celtic and world music. The audience will enjoy instrumental and vocal music from such locations as Japan, Liberia, Ireland, Scotland, and more.
The evening will include a bagpipe demonstration and a display of international musical instruments from the College’s John Quincy Wolf collection. A silent auction of batik-style blouses, ties, and fabrics from Indonesia will also take place during the evening, benefiting the Friends of Sophia. This group is the Lyon Religion and Philosophy student organization, which will use the money raised to attend conferences.
The concert is scheduled for Thursday, March 8, in the Bevens Music Room of Brown Chapel – Fine Arts Building, beginning at 5 p.m. People can view the batik and place their bids before and during breaks in the musical event, with auction winners announced shortly after the program ends.
Lyon is more than just a college. It's a community distinguished by its academic curriculum, unique honor and social systems, and award-winning professors.
