United States Highway 167 stretches some 500 miles from Abbeville, LA, to Ash Flat, AR.  The southern end of the highway is located in Southwestern Louisiana, a flat, low lying region dominated by Cajun culture.  If you proceed northward along the highway from Abbeville, you will pass through Lafayette, Opelousas, and Alexandria.  Continuing northward you reach the beautiful rolling hills and pine forests of North Louisiana.  In Jackson Parish, one can visit the Jimmie Davis (You Are My Sunshine) tabernacle.  In Lincoln Parish you cross over I-20 and pass through Ruston, home of Mitchum's peach orchard.  Three more hours of travel bring you to Little Rock, the largest city on Hwy 167.  Traveling 90 more miles northward, you reach Batesville, the oldest city in Arkansas settled by Europeans and still inhabited.  High atop College Hill in Batesville you will find the academic gem Lyon College.  If you drive fifteen miles north of Batesville, you're in Cave City, where mouth watering watermelons are grown.  Fifteen miles north of Cave City is the end of the highway.
