Mr. Richardson received his Master’s teaching license and the shakuhachi name Kakudo from the renowned flutist Yoshio Kurahashi. He performs regularly at festivals and local functions. He has appeared at many notable area venues including the Myerson Symphony Center, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimbell Museum of Art, and the Crowe Collection of Asian Art. His recording Shakuhachi Meditation Music is one of the best selling recordings of solo shakuhachi music by a non -Japanese. In 1998 he was a featured performer and teacher at the World Shakuhachi Festival in Boulder, Colorado. He has performed on several occasions and recorded with the world famous Turtle Creek Chorale. In 2002 he performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the gala event featuring renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Mr. Richardson is currently head of Mujuan Shakuhachi Dojo, the Texas branch of the Kyoto based school founded by Yodo Kurahashi.

Dr. Kinko Ito received her Ph.D. in sociology from Ohio State University in 1987. She is currently a professor of sociology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her book, Yappari Kekkon Shitai (Desperately Seeking Marriage), which is based on her lecture notes for the sociology of the family, was published by Shufunotomosha in Tokyo in 1997. Dr. Ito’s research interests also include Japanese popular culture as reflected in Japanese comics. Her articles include "Images of Women in Weekly Male Comics Magazines in Japan" (Journal of Popular Culture), "Sexism in Japanese Weekly Comic Magazines for Men" (Asian Popular Culture), "The Manga Culture in Japan" (Japan Studies Review), "The World of Japanese Ladies' Comics: From Romantic Fantasy to Lustful Perversion (JPC), "Japanese Ladies' comics as Agents of Socialization: The Lessons They Teach" (International Journal of Comic Arts).
