GREAT WINDOW
I sat silently, barely breathing
Rocking down the moon while she lay sleeping
The sky was pregnant with pink and blue
Banners of Lucifer, herald of the too soon sun
Uninterrupted, but for the pain of the great window
That light washed over me
As it brightened my prison
The scream of distant gulls
Called me back at the critical instant
Else I should have gone with them
To that land beyond the Western Sea
Would she have seen it in her dreams?
I thought not, then
And now I should not care
But for the mystery
Of the history we share
