Dave's Web Page
Me, myself and I

Dr. Dave Thomas, August 2003Hello. I'm Dave Thomas (click on the image for a larger version).  No, not the Wendy's guy or the Canadian comedian—the other Dave Thomas.  I'm a professional biologist.  I teach microbiology, Earth systems, general biology and other classes at Lyon College.  Among my interests are astrobiology, planetary engineering and other space applications of the biological sciences.  In more down to earth subjects, I study plants, algae and cyanobacteria and their responses to environmental stress.  I am the creator and webmaster of "Marsbugs: The Astrobiology Index."  I also volunteer as a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador.  Please invite me to talk about space exploration at your school, organization or community group.

Aside from my academic responsibilities, I am the faculty advisor for Lyon College's chapter of Catholic Campus Ministry.  My children are involved in Scouting, and so I am as well.  I serve as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 166 in Batesville, AR, and I am a committee member Girl Scout Troop 83.

I am an avid (rabid?) amateur photographer. To see some of my photos, go to Dave's Photography Page.  Although much of photography is of the landscape and nature variety, I also photograph many of Lyon College's athletic events.  Finally, when I have some spare time, I like to write adventures for role-playing games.  Unfortunately, I haven't had time to do this for several years.
