Text Box: Dear Dance Families,
I am very pleased to present to you the very first edition of the Highland Reel! Through these newsletters, I will be easily able to communicate dance tips, upcoming events, dance information, and anything I might find useful or interesting to everyone at the same time! I have so much in store for your dancers this year! I hope that if you all have any questions or interests concerning your dancer, Scottish tradition, dancing terminology, dancing tests, rules,, judging, etc that you will email your suggestions and I will see to it that the answer is in the next issue. I would like to try to have everyone own their own pair of ghillies (our Highland dancing shoes) sometime throughout this year. They can run from the $40 & up brand new. However, there are MANY consignment shops online where you can buy them at any price imaginable. Ghillies are made of  leather and are made in Scotland (imported) and are a little pricey because of these reasons. Ghillies are not only required for competition, but I feel that they would give the girls a feeling of “official-ness” and it would definitely make us look more uniformed as a studio. ALSO if anyone would be interested, I could definitely get us a small fundraiser started so that each child could raise money for their own pair of shoes! Let me know if anyone is interested in doing this! NOBODY IS LEFT BEHIND IN THIS!!! See me for any problems...I can and will work something out...I always do! ;)  Please see me about shoe sizing, brands, etc. I will be posting used shoes in the studio throughout the year!

Text Box: Some of you may be wondering (as I did when I first entered the world of Scottish dancing) “Where does everyone get the things they need?” I hope to clear up some of the pondering with the following websites!
-A great place to view tartans (plaids) for future kilts, a place to buy CDs, shoes, and unique gifts for your highland dancer. Reasonably priced and always willing to help out! Also a great place for consignment wear (including shoes!)
-A fairly newer site dedicated to supplying your dancer with sewing patterns (kilts, nationals, etc),

Text Box: cute gifts, CDs, practice wear, practice videos etc.  Also has consignment section!
-Official website of the Federation of United States Teachers and Adjudicators (for Highland only ). Has information on individual dances, costume require
ments and minimums, F.A.Q. s. competition information, etc. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND going through this site at least once or twice!

Text Box: · www.tartantown.com
-Another great site for clothing, costumes, shoes, info, books, CDs, practice wear, instructional videos, gifts, etc.
- Very helpful. Always updated with news and tid-bits!
