A Message from the President

Fellow Lyon Students,

As the days of summer break draw to an end, it’s time to once again ready ourselves for the upcoming academic year.   For some, summer break has been a time of rest and relaxation, while others have filled their days with work, summer travel, and perhaps an occasional day of sleeping late.  In a few days, we’ll be together again at Lyon, joined by the incoming freshmen class and transfer students, ready to begin what will be another great year.

Last year was definitely a busy, but successful year for SGA.  Perhaps the highlight of our year was the SGA-sponsored Jon McLaughlin concert, which provided a much needed break on the last day of classes.  Both Jon McLaughlin and opener Ben Rector gave amazing performances, providing entertainment for the Lyon community as well as the surrounding Batesville area.  Aside from the concert, SGA worked to establish working Building Hours for all campus buildings, revamped our own bylaws, and steadily made efforts to improve the Dining Hall, campus security, and other areas of student concern.  Additionally, SGA was able to sponsor over 15 different events for campus clubs and organizations, provide funding for publications such as the Highlander, The Wheelbarrow, and the Scot yearbook, and assist SAC in funding events throughout the year.

In the upcoming school year, the main goal of SGA will be to further improve life on the Lyon campus.  As members of SGA, we are YOUR voice.  If you have concerns about anything….whether it’s wanting to see more of your favorite food in the cafeteria, suggestions for residence hall improvements, or an interest in starting a new campus organization…members of SGA are here to listen and help!  We want to make Lyon the best that it can be, but we need your advice, thoughts, and opinions to make that happen.

Best wishes for an enjoyable and productive year.

Katee Castleman

SGA President
