Submissions due: Thursday, April 3, 1:00 p.m. to Peggy Weaver's office in the Lyon Building

Finalists Announced: Thursday, April 8 via email by 10:00 p.m.

Forum and Awards Presentation: Thursday, April 17, 7:00-9:00 p.m., Bevens Music Room

Finalists are expected to present their work at the forum. Presentations should be 10-12 minutes with an additional 3-5 minutes for questions from the audience. Following the presentations, the overall winners will be selected using the presentation as a final criterion for evaluation. Those whose submissions require the selection committee to evaluate exhibits or performances should contact Dr. Beck or another member of the SCARF committee as soon as possible to arrange a time and place to meet. Additionally, submitted work that must be displayed for evaluation also needs advance consideration. Presentation of these submissions at the SCARF forum should also be discussed in advance.  Committee members are: Dr. Baker, Dr. Ong, Ms. LeJeune, Dr. Beck, Dr. Wood and Ms. Weaver.

Rules for submission:

Each submitted work that is not already a written document must be accompanied by a summary document discussing the submission (in addition to the abstract requirement). In particular, the judges will be interested in the student’s motivations, research, and personal philosophy about the work. The best submissions address each of the evaluation criteria below. Poster presentations should include sufficient written documentation to permit accessibility to the general reader.

Criteria for Judgment:

Submission will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Focus of the work or research
  2. Originality and /or creativity of the submission
  3. Organization and clarity
  4. Research process/technical quality/methodology
  5. Accessibility to a general audience-submission should be works suitable for general audience publications such as Harper’s, The Atlantic, Scientific American, or The New Yorker.
  6. Quality of presentation at the forum

Types of Submissions:

1. Both individual and group projects are acceptable. Multi-authored submissions must include a statement of contribution for each student entrant.

2.  Submissions resulting from internships completed off-campus are acceptable.
