Nichols Trip to Switzerland and Austria - May,
2006.
- Ten students and Dr. Yonts traveled to Geneva, Switzerland in May 2006.
Here the group is during a layover in Paris –
don’t we look excited?

Below
are some activities the group enjoyed while in Geneva. They included: touring the Old City,
visiting the St. Pierre
Cathedral, the Jet d’Eau, the Reformer’s Wall, etc.

- On Day 4 the group took a day trip to the city of Montreaux. This was a beautiful city, located on the shores of
Lake Geneva. A ferry ride took us to the Chateau de Chillon, one of the
oldest and best known castles in Europe. Lord Byron was so inspired by the
castle and the tale of the imprisonment of Bonivard that he wrote the poem
"The Prisoner of Chillon".

- Day 10 – During the second week, the group moved to Vienna, Austria. We
visited the home of Sigmund Freud and the Kindermuseum. Other attractions
were the Schonbrunn Palace and the surrounding grounds and the
MuseumQuartier.
While at Schonbrunn, we saw the oldest zoo in Europe, a roman
temple, and the palace gardens. After dinner, we attended a performance of
Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), unique in that it
was performed by marionettes.

- During one of our day trips in Austria, we visited Salzburg. Our "Sound of
Music" tour was cancelled due to the weather so we visited the Festung
Hohensalzburg fortress instead. This fortress is over 900 years old and
considered one of the mightiest castles in Central Europe.
