Nichols International Studies Program

Exchange Programs

Lyon has established exchange agreements with Akita International University (Akita, Japan), Queen's University (Northern Ireland), the University of Ulster (Northern Ireland), and the University of Poitiers (France).  Students normally participate in these exchange programs during their junior year, studying for either a semester or year abroad.  Students must have a Lyon cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good financial standing to participate in one of the above exchange programs.

Participants must be enrolled full-time at Lyon during the duration of the exchange program.   Approval to participate in an exchange program and to enroll in NIS 300 and/or NIS 301must be granted in advance by the director of the Nichols International Studies Program and the Dean of the Faculty.  Students enrolled in NIS 300 and/or NIS 301 will be eligible for a Nichols international study grant if they have not previously used the grants for Nichols international travel courses.  In a limited number of cases, they may also be eligible for other forms of financial assistance.  Students should consult with the director of financial aid regarding their eligibility for financial assistance while participating in approved exchange programs.

For further information on the requirements to participate in these exchange programs, please see the Lyon College Catalog.

Other Study Abroad Opportunities

Students may participate in other study abroad programs.  They may not be concurrently enrolled at Lyon, however.  Thus, they will normally apply for a leave of absence during the duration of their study abroad.  The courses taken during leaves of absence will be considered for transfer credit.  Students assume total responsibility for all costs of participating in such programs as no financial assistance can be awarded by Lyon College during their study abroad.
