Lyon ends losing streak by winning two on the road Saturday
(September 18, 2004) Conway, AR – The Lyon College Volleyball team ended a season long 3 game losing streak by winning both of their games on Saturday. The Pipers beat the University of Texas at Tyler 3-1 (30-18, 30-24, 22-30, 32-30) and the University of Dallas 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-24).
In the early match of the day, Lyon took on a tough UT Tyler team. Winning the first game easily 30-18, the second game did not come so easily. The Pipers, nevertheless, came out on top 30-24. The third game the Pipers found themselves in a hole, giving up 8 aces to the Patriots. The third game went to UT Tyler, 30-22. The fourth game had the Pipers trailing the whole way, even facing 5 game points at 29-24. The ladies brought it together and managed to knot it up at 29-29. A close net call gave UT Tyler its 6th game point at 30-29, but a kill by Sophomore Madeline Homer, and service ace by Susie Harper gave Lyon its first lead of the game at 31-30. The next tough serve got UT Tyler out of their offense, and Lyon won the point on an attack error to take the match 3-1. Leading the way for the Pipers was Sophomore Alison Sablick who hit an amazing .407 with 13 kills and 17 digs. Ceca Brckalo put away 12 kills and added 24 digs, while Junior Susie Harper added to her conference leading 105 digs with 29 for the match. Senior Setter Yllen Rosales dished out 30 assists which is an amazing total in a 6-2 offense.
The late match pitted Lyon against a defensive minded University of Dallas team. The Pipers strolled to a 3-0 victory behind the great play of Senior Setter/ Right side hitter Yllen Rosales. Yllen had 7 kills, 21 assists, 7 digs and 5 total blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Alyson Boone hit an outstanding .563 with 9 kills versus 0 errors. Susie Harper added a match high 21 digs.
The ladies play host to Williams Baptist on Tuesday night at Becknell gym. They will try for the season sweep against WBC after a 3-1 win in Walnut Ridge earlier this month. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
