Pipers Open Season with Commanding Win Over Philander

(September 2, 2004) Batesville, Arkansas – The Lyon Volleyball team opened up their 2004 campaign with a convincing win over in state opponent Philander Smith College.  The Pipers swept the Panthers by the scores of 30-10, 30-8, 30-10.  Leading the way for Lyon was Senior Ceca Brckalo with 15 kills, 4 aces, and 7 digs.  Fellow Senior Yllen Rosales added 4 aces and 18 assists.  The dig leader for the match was Junior libero Susie Harper with 16.  This match also featured the first time that a libero served in a match, as Susie Harper used the new rule to the Piper’s advantage netting 8 aces on the night.

“It was a great way to start our season,” stated Coach Dee.  “We still have things to work on, but it was a great first match out of the gates.  We need to work on our timing on offense and our serve receive, but the team looks good.”

The Pipers travel to Walnut Ridge on Friday for a match against Williams Baptist.  Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
