Pipers play hard, but drop third straight match
(September 16, 2004) Batesville, AR – The Lyon College volleyball team dropped their third straight match on Thursday night to visiting NCAA II Christian Brothers University 3-0 (23-30, 29-31, 20-30). The ladies fought hard in each game and held a 15-10 lead in game 2, but failed to finish in committing some key service and attack errors to give game 2 back to Christian Brothers. Ceca Brckalo led the way for the Pipers with 11 kills and 18 digs, while Sophomore Alyson Boone added 9 kills and 4.5 blocks. Susie Harper kept up her great defensive play with 22 digs.
“Some things are more important than wins,” remarked Coach Dee. “I think learning from a non-conference match will help us more than winning. I was very impressed with our blocking tonight. The stats don’t quite show it, but we improved greatly from the Rhodes match. I appreciate the fans and the extra encouragement they bring to our matches. We played well; we just played well against a good team.”
Lyon travels to Conway, AR, on Saturday, September 18. They will participate in a tri match against the University of Dallas and the University of Texas at Tyler. Match times are at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
