Weintz, Sublett Named TranSouth Basketball Players of the Week
PULASKI, Tenn. – Norris Weintz and Andrea Sublett both of Lyon College (Ark.) have been named the TranSouth Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and the TranSouth Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 30, 2005.
Weintz, a 6-foot-7-inch junior forward from Little Rock, Arkansas, led the Scots to a 1-1 week including an upset road win at NAIA No. 6 and TranSouth opponent Trevecca Nazarene University. In the 74-71 upset of Trevecca, he notched a double-double scoring 19 points and pulling in 14 rebounds. In a 75-68 loss to TranSouth opponent Union University, he scored 16 points and five rebounds. For the week, Weintz averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. He shot 11-of-26 from the floor, 2-of-5 from beyond the three-point line and an impressive 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. Lyon College is now 10-7 overall and 1-2 in TranSouth Conference play.
Sublett, a 5-foot-9-inch freshman guard from Hardy, Arkansas, helped lead the Pipers of Lyon College to a 1-1 week including an upset win over NAIA No. 2 and TranSouth opponent Union University. In the 86-77 upset win over Union, she scored a career high 35 points and grabbed four rebounds. In a loss to NAIA No. 18 and TranSouth opponent Trevecca Nazarene, Sublett scored eight points, six rebounds and added two blocks and a steal. For the week, she averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists and one block. She shot 16-of-28 from the field, 6-of-11 from beyond the arc and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Lyon is now 12-8 overall and 1-3 in TranSouth Conference play.
