The Scots opened the 2004 season with a win at home on Sept. 28th over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, who received votes in the NAIA national preseason polls. Both teams had several good scoring opportunities through out the match, but the score remained 0-0 until the last minutes of play. In the 89th minute Robert Kaloghirou served a pass in behind the USAO defense from the Scots defensive half of the field. Freshman Taylor McFarland ran onto the pass and beat the USAO goal keeper, Elliott Ballman, with a shot to the far post. Brett Hugg, goal keeper for the Scots, made several big saves on the day to keep them in the game.
