The Life of an Anthropologist does not have to be limited to teaching or digging in the dirt!

Applied Anthropology is commissioned by an organization outside of academia. May be to provide social and cultural background on particular people, but clients will expect advice on the administration of particular policies and programs that deal with human service.  Applied Anthropologists need to know policy analysis and understand the process of decision making.

Usually, applied anthropology is done by anthropologists working out of a university for an outside agency, and the topic is not selected by the anthropologist.

Practicing Anthropology allows trained people to use their skills and knowledge fulltime outside of academic settings, for practical purposes.  Practicing anthropologists engage in action, administration, and implementation.

Practicing anthropologists may be hired by a number of services, including consulting companies, public service agencies, nonprofit private organizations, and government organizations, such as, CASE, Oxfam, or the Red Cross.
