Walter
Roettger was inaugurated as Lyon College's sixteenth
president in July 1998. He is also professor of
political science at the College. Before coming to
Lyon, he served as vice president of the college and
dean of faculty at Westminster College in Fulton,
Missouri. Roettger earned his undergraduate degree from
Stanford University and his Ph.D. in political science
from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Wallie is
an elder in the First Presbyterian Church – Batesville,
a Rotarian, has served as a chairman of the Batesville
Area Chamber of Commerce, and is the current president
of Arkansas Independent Colleges and Universities.
Roettger was born in Champaign, Illinois, where his
father, a former major league baseball player with the
St. Louis Cardinals, was the head baseball coach at the
University of Illinois. His wife, Margaret Begley
Roettger, is a former coordinator of community relations
for the New England Patriots of the National Football
League. The Roettgers have one son, Dan, who is fifteen. |
