ART 399: EXPLORING THE ART WONDERS OF ITALY / 1 credit, Spring 2006, Chris Valle.  Students will not only see in person the Italian masterpieces that they have studied in their art courses, but will examine--through experience, study, and imagination--the city life of Italy from the Classical era to the present.  In Rome, they will visit sites such as the Vatican Museums, the Roman Forum, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Coliseum, and the Borghese Gallery; in Florence, the Uffizi Gallery, the Chapel of San Lorenzo, Florence Cathedral and  baptistery, and Santa Maria Novella; and in Venice, the Gallerie dell’Accademia, the Guggenheim Museum, the Piazza San Marco, and the Doge’s Palace.  Course requirements include drawing on site. Pre-requisites: ART 110 AND one of the following: ART 212, ART 213, ART 306, ART 307, ART 308, ART 309. Enrollment limit:  12*.  Course fee: $550#. 

FGN 399: STUDY TOUR OF JAPAN / 1 credit, Spring 2006, Mieko Peek.  Students on this trip will have many opportunities to gain real life experience in the use of the Japanese language.  They will develop their Japanese language skills while they learn about Japanese culture, history, and business by visiting various places of artistic, historical, and religious significance in Japan, including sites in Tokyo and Kyoto.  Students will be required to keep a daily journal in which they record their impressions and observations.  Prerequisite: FGN 102 (Japanese). Preference given to students who have also taken FGN 201 and 202. Enrollment limit: 8*.  Course fee: $650#. 

FRN 399: AMERICANS IN FRANCE / 1 credit, Spring 2006, Catherine Bordeau.  This course will focus on some of the most famous experiences of Americans in France in the 20th century, examining the lives and works of American expatriate artists in Paris such as Hemingway, Stein, and Jim Morrison.  In addition, students will travel to Normandy to visit the D-Day invasion beaches.  As Americans in France themselves, students will study and visit key historical and cultural sites in Paris and Normandy, and reflect on the experience of being Americans in France.  Prerequisite: FRN 102.  Preference given to students who have also completed HIS 202 or French courses beyond the 100 level.  Enrollment limit: 20*.  Course fee: $550#.  

PSY 399: EUROPEAN DEVELOPMENTAL THEORISTS / 1 credit, May 2006, Nikki Yonts. In this course, students will explore the contributions of major European psychologists to the study of child development: primarily Piaget, but also Freud, Erikson, and Jung. Traveling to Geneva, Switzerland, and Vienna, Austria, they will visit key historical, educational, and recreational sites associated with these theorists, such as the Foundation Archives of Jean Piaget in Geneva, Chateau de Chillon in the Lake Geneva region, the Freud Museum and Zoom Kindermuseum in Vienna, and various Swiss and Austrian parks and tourist attractions specifically designed as educational centers for young children. Prerequisite: PSY 290 or EDU 290 or PSY 310 (formerly PSY 382).  Enrollment limit: 12*.  Course fee: $600#.  

#These fees cover students’ ground transportation, admissions fees, and various other trip expenses.  The fees published here are approximations, based on previous trips.  Actual fees may be slightly higher, depending on the strength of the dollar against foreign currencies.
