Tracy Stewart-Lange, a Lyon
College alumna and member of its Athletic Hall of Fame, has been appointed the
new head women’s basketball coach at Lyon. She also will serve as interim
director of physical education.
A native of Batesville and 1986
graduate of Lyon, Stewart-Lange is a former NCAA Division I head coach of the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock Lady Trojans.
“I am
extremely excited about this opportunity at this point in my career,” Lange
said. ”I think this level offers such a great balance of academics and athletics
and, for me personally, career and family. Lyon College was a great experience
for me as a student-athlete and I look forward to being a part of that as the
coach of the Pipers ‘
Lyon
Athletic Director Terry Garner said, “I’m certainly thrilled to see Tracy return
to Lyon College. She was an outstanding athlete and has had an outstanding
coaching career. I look forward to working with her.”
Stewart-Lange was head women’s
basketball coach at UALR for five years. Previously, she had been an assistant
coach at Missouri-Kansas City, Mississippi State, Westark Community College at
Fort Smith, and Texas A&M, where she served as first assistant and was
recruiting coordinator.
More recently, she has been the
assistant girls’ varsity coach and Lower School physical education instructor at
Webb School of Knoxville, Tenn.
Stewart-Lange began her college
playing years at ASU-Beebe, where she was an all-conference player on the
women’s basketball team. After transferring to Lyon, Stewart-Lange led the team
in assists and was twice named to the all-conference and all-district teams in
the AIC.
She received the Winnie Marable
Award for the outstanding female student-athlete and was named to Who’s Who
Among American College and University Students. She was elected into the
Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
She received a B.A. degree in
English and journalism at Lyon and a master of education degree in sports
administration at Mississippi State University.
