Three inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame; fourth
receives Service Award

Lyon College honored four former athletes by inducting three of them into the
school's Athletic Hall of Fame and giving the fourth the Service Award on
Saturday, Oct. 21, during Homecoming '06.
The inductees are Danny Daniels '90 of Batesville, Charlie Traub '88 of
Batesville and Kristie Gay Jenkins '92 of Cave City. Elmer Kirk of Batesville
received the Service Award.
Danny Daniels played basketball for Lyon College. He comes from Brosely, Mo.,
and now lives in Batesville. A 1990 Lyon graduate, he is currently pursuing a
master of education degree at Arkansas State University. At Lyon he played
basketball from 1986 to 1990 and was named an AIC All-Conference player in
1988-1989, and was Honorable Mention All-Conference in 1989-1990.
Charlie Traub played basketball for the College from 1984-1988. Twice he earned
a position on the AIC All-Conference Team, and twice he was named All-District.
He's also served as T-ball coach and alderman for the city of Cushman. He's been
employed by Arkansas Eastman for more than 17 years.
Kristie Jenkins played basketball and ran cross-country while at Lyon. She's
currently 11th in career assists and 10th in four-year overall basketball
scoring at the College. In 1989, she was All-District 17 and All-AIC in
cross-country, and she qualified for the national cross-country championship for
two years. In 1992, she won a spot as an Honorable Mention All-AIC basketball
player. She's worked as a physical therapy assistant, high school and elementary
school teacher, and junior and senior high coach in basketball and tennis. In
1996 and 1999, her boys tennis team won the conference championship. She is
married to Kevin Jenkins, head men's basketball coach at Lyon.
Elmer Kirk is a longtime farmer, rancher and businessman. He founded the Midwest
Lime Co., owned a Ford tractor dealership and was vice president and claims
adjuster for Farmer's Union Insurance. Some of his awards and honors include
Fair Manager of the Year, Citizen of the Year by Kiwanis, Lyon College Honorary
Alumnus Award and Lyon College Booster of the Year. He also is a member of the
Independence County Sports Hall of Fame.
While attending the University of Arkansas in 1942, he earned a spot on the
basketball team as a walk-on and became a starter. He's also an accomplished
horseman who has shown Missouri foxtrotters.
The Lyon College Hall of Fame was founded in 1983 to honor the athletic
standouts from Lyon College in all sports. The Service Award is presented to
individuals who has been outstanding supporters of the athletic program.
