BATESVILLE,
Ark. -- Lyon College Pipers' forward Sarah Ruegger
scored a school-record five goals and set the Lyon's
single-season goal benchmark in a 13-0 victory over the
Crichton College Lady Comets Tuesday in a TranSouth
Conference match at Huser Field.
The Pipers'
13-goal performance was also a single-game school
record, topping a 10-goal tally in a win over Pikeville
College on Oct. 6, 2006.
Ruegger's
five-goal outburst was her second hat trick of the
season and gave her 12 goals this year, breaking the old
single-season school mark of 11 set by Sarah Poncher in
2006. The junior forward had a hat trick early, scoring
four goals -- one in each of the 2nd, 10th, 34th and
42nd minutes -- before the break. She shattered her own
single-game record in the 68th minute of the game with a
shot past Crichton goalkeeper Sarah Harrison.
Ruegger's
scoring outburst gives her 27 points, just one point shy
of tying the school's single-season points mark, held by
Poncher (28 points in '06).
Lyon's
Angelique Armenta and Kristin Maas each scored two goals
and had one assist. Teammates Marisa Browne and Ashley
Harris scored one goal and had two assists apiece.
Aurora Alba notched a goal and an assist and Kaelli
Broomfield earned a goal. Nicole Brinkman, Abby Senn and
Amber Mathieson added two assists each.
Pipers'
freshman goalkeeper Erica Cox earned her fourth shutout
of the season, saving two shots in 90 minutes of work.
Lyon evens
its record to 7-7-1 this season and 3-4 in the TranSouth.
Crichton falls to 1-14 and 0-8 in league play.
