LONGVIEW, Tex. -- Thanks
to forward Sarah Poncher’s two-goal performance, the
Lyon College Pipers ran their season-opening winning
streak to three games and iced the LeTourneau
LadyJackets, 3-2, Saturday at in a non-conference soccer
match at Longview, Tex.
Down 1-0 to the LadyJackets, Poncher
began the scoring string in the 44th minute
off a pass from Katy Smith to knot the score at 1-1 in
the first half. Poncher continuted her assault with an
assist on a Sarah Ruegger goal to allow the Pipers to
swipe a 2-1 advantage in the 47th minute.
Later with the score tied at 2-2, Poncher struck again
in the 89th minute, this time on a pass from
Aurora Alba for the game-winner.
Stephanie Henderson (3-0-0) got the win
in goal for the Pipers, collecting five goal saves.
LeTourneau received one
goal each from Denee McKay and Erica Sudek.
Lyon College improves to (3-0) on the
season, which is the best start for the Pipers in the
young history of the program. LeTourneau falls to 1-3.
