Three second-half goals
powered the nationally-ranked Bethel Lady Wildcats to a
3-0 victory over the Lyon College Pipers Tuesday in a
TranSouth women’s soccer match at Lyon College Soccer
Field.
Bethel, ranked No. 17
nationally in the NAIA Division I women’s soccer poll,
and Lyon fought to a 0-0 standstill in the first half of
play as Piper goal keeper Stephanie Henderson and the
Lyon defense stonewalled the Lady ‘Cats.
In the second half,
Bethel flexed its scoring power, launching three goals
into the net – one each by Philisha Lewis, Alicia James
and Tanami Ito -- to win going away down the stretch.
Henderson stopped 15
shots total and suffered only her fourth loss of the
season against 10 victories.
Lyon, ranked fifth in the
Region XI rankings, falls to 11-4 overall and sits third
at 5-2 in the TranSouth Standings. Bethel, ranked third
in Region XI, runs its record to 11-3-1 and 5-1, good
for second place in the conference behind Martin
Methodist, who is ranked third nationally.
