HENDERSON, Tenn.
– April Carter hit two free throws with :02 remaining to
lift the Lyon College Pipers to a 69-68 upset victory
over the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions
Saturday in TranSouth Conference action.
Freshman K.K. Hodges (Wynne, Ark.) sparked Lyon with a
game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds -- her second
straight double-double and third overall this season.
Hodges gave the Pipers a 66-65 lead with a pair of
charity shots with 1:37 to go, before Carter's clutch
game winners.
The Pipers improve to 13-5 this season and 4-3 in league
play. Lyon's league win was its second in three games.
Freed-Hardeman falls to 16-4 and suffers only its second
conference loss of the year against six wins.
It was also banner day for Lyon junior Maribeth Waters (Greers
Ferry, Ark.), who became the newest member of the
school's 1,000-point club. Waters scored seven points in
the game, settling her career total at 1,002.
Snezana Jovanovic added 20 points and five boards.
