BATESVILLE, Ark. --
Jaszmen Steele's 3-pointer with :34 left to play gave
Philander Smith College a 64-63 upset win over the Lyon
College Pipers Thursday evening in nonconference play at
Becknell Gym.
Steele's 3 capped a
team-high 16 point night for the Philander Smith guard.
She hit 4 of 4 3-point shots during the evening and was
6 of 7 from field goal range.
Lyon (1-1) had three
shots at a victory, but couldn't get a one to fall over
the final :30 of the game.
The defeat spoiled a
game-high 22 points from Piper guard April Carter.
Carter hit on 6 of 8 shots from the field, all of which
came from 3-point range, and knocked down 4 of 4 from
the charity stripe.
Junior forward Maribeth
Waters added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds
for the Pipers. Junior teammate Laura Throesch scored
nine points and had a career-high six blocks.
Philander Smith's Miesha
Williams scored 12 points and had five assists. Senkenia
Hicks earned eight points and seven boards.
