BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The
Lyon College Pipers had their best full season to date
in 2006. The Pipers recorded 19 victories against 14
losses, finished fifth in the TranSouth Conference with
a 9-7 mark and made its first-ever Region XI Tournament
appearance.
The Pipers return six starters in 2007 - senior outside hitter Daria
Paunovic (second team All-TranSouth), sophomore middle
blocker Katie Beineke (second team All-TranSouth),
junior libero Ann Sullivan (a TranSouth Libero of the
Week), sophomore outside hitter Lauren Castleberry (All-TranSouth
Conference Tournament), defensive specialist Julie
Arnold and setter Jessica Sylvester. Junior defensive specialist Leah Eifling also
returns to bolster the veteran core of players.
As far as newcomers are concerned, Lyon College coach
Justin Dee's landmark recruiting class will be expected
to contribute immediately to the Pipers success in '07.
Fort Smith (Ark.) prep standout Meghann LaBorn
(6-foot-2) and Jonesboro's Heather Gottfried are
expected to step in immediately and help in the middle. Another
pair of freshmen, outside hitter Ashley Daniel of
Memphis, Tenn., and setter Katelyn Parsons of Holly Lake
Ranch, Tex., should push their counterparts for playing
time, making for a deep Lyon College squad.
