BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The Lyon College Pipers were a
killing machine, notching 64 kills in a 3-1 (30-23,
31-29, 22-30, 30-18) victory over the Union University
Lady Bulldogs Thursday in TranSouth Conference action.
Sophomore middle blocker Katie Beineke led the way for
the Pipers at the net, slamming 17 kills. Beineke also
added three solo blocks.
Outside hitter Lauren Castleberry earned 15 kills and
proved to be quite the multi-purpose threat, collecting
12 digs while serving three aces.
Piper
senior Daria Paunovic had 12 kills and 15 digs.
Paunovic's kill total moves her into second place on the
Pipers' all-time kill list with 1168 -- ahead of former
Piper Kim Ricker 1164 and just 40 kills behind Lyon
career kill leader Ceca Brckalo.
Freshman Meghann LaBorn rounded out Lyon's double-digit
kill club with 10.
Ann
Sullivan was the Piper dig leader with 18 and setter
Julie Arnold sparked the team with 30 assists. Setter
Jessica Sylvester pitched in 26 assists.
Lyon's victory was its third straight regular season win
over the Lady Bulldogs, dating back to Sept. 21 of last
season. The triumph also broke a two-game losing skid
for the Pipers, who improve to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in
the TranSouth.
