BATESVILLE, Ark. –
The Trevecca Nazarene Lady Trojans put an end to the
Lyon College Pipers' TranSouth Conference Tournament run
with a 3-0 victory Saturday in the loser's bracket of
the double-elimination event at Becknell Gym.
Lyon (19-13) lost the first two games 30-24 and 30-25,
then valiantly fought through 10 game points before it
was defeated 36-34 to decide the match. Lyon's 19 wins
this season tied the school mark for most victories in a
single campaign, equalled only by the 2006 squad.
Pipers' senior hitter Daria Paunovic tallied a team-high
16 kills and had 10 digs in her last game at Becknell
Gym.
Paunovic ends her career as the school's all-time kill
leader and was just the third Piper in the history of
the program to notch 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Sophomores Lauren Castleberry and Katie Beineke pitched
in 14 kills apiece for the Pipers. Castleberry added
eight digs and Beineke accounted for two solo blocks in
addition to their respective kill totals.
Senior setter Jessica Sylvester also played her last
contest for the Pipers, earning a team-high 23 assists.
Sylvester ends her career No. 2 on Lyon's all-time
assists list.
