BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Union University Lady Bulldogs
came out swinging, winning the first two matches, en
route to a 3-1 victory over the Lyon College Pipers
Friday in the first round of the double-elimination
TranSouth Conference Volleyball Tournament.
The No. 4 seed Pipers (18-12 overall) dropped the first
two games 30-15 and 30-27, but rallied for a 30-23 win
in the third contest. No. 5 seed Union (23-8) closed out the
match in the fourth game with a 30-19 victory.
Pipers' sophomore Lauren Castleberry led all Lyon
hitters with 18 kills and earned nine digs to go with
two service aces. Senior Daria Paunovic added 13 kills,
two solo blocks and 12 digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Katie Beineke scored 12 kills and had a team-high three
solo blocks.
Lyon setter Jessica Sylvester led the team with 24
assists. Piper libero Ann Sullivan earned a team-high 25
digs.
Lyon falls into the loser's bracket and will play tonight
at 7 p.m.
against Martin Methodist, Cumberland or
Mid-Continent.
